About the Exhibition
Distance Between
The challenges of being close to something only in a memory. The internal struggle to connect while feeling there is distance. This is a series of photos that signify time as distance. The self discovery of desires for intimacy and closeness that fall in the past, but are showing up in the present in a way that has curiosity, but hesitancy to move forward. Exploring new spaces outward and inward as a trial to find self.
Distance Between is a reconnecting with the world around us in a slow matter through nostalgia and intuition. Knowing that questions arise with unsureness; breaking the cycle of comfort, but at the same time, wanting closeness. Here lies a sensitivity of being seen behind the camera and wondering what lands. The work speaks on a transitory time of identity that adds nuance to documentary-style approach in objects, scenes, and fragments of people to reconfigure what closeness is.
Rich Lomibao’s exhibition is on view from June 9 – August 27, 2023
