SOMArts anniversary shirts are now available online!
SOMArts Cultural Center is excited to announce that the official 40th-anniversary t-shirt designed by artist extraordinaire Alyssa Aviles is now available for purchase online! Aviles beautifully encompasses SOMArts rich history of nurturing emerging Bay Area artists and curators. Born and raised in San Francisco, Aviles is an artist and arts educator who is deeply influenced by her Mission roots. Drawing inspiration from SOMArts garden, she uses flora as a metaphor for the ways QTPOC artists have flourished, bloomed, and stepped into their power.
All funds go to supporting SOMArts Cultural Center during this unprecedented time, making sure that we are here for another 40 years. The postponement of our Spring fundraiser, as well as the cancellation of recent and upcoming event programming, has resulted in a significant shortfall in our annual budget. Your purchase of our commemorative 40th anniversary t-shirt ensures that when this storm passes, Bay Area artists continue to have accessible space for their work in San Francisco.
“SOMArts is extremely important in providing a space for artists to make authentic, often opinionated work that addresses the passions and plights of their communities. Every exhibit I’ve been to at SOMArts has been extremely unique and representative of San Francisco on a community level. I love that SOMArts represents such a diverse group of people and intentionally makes room for our beautiful communities to be seen and heard,” says Aviles.
