A reflection on a journey and coming of age as a woman, capturing the essence of growth and experiences over the years.
For the artist, turning 25 this year is a significant milestone. The artist shares, “marking a decade since I celebrated my 15th birthday. This exhibition symbolizes my transition and development through adolescence into adulthood.”

About the artist
As an Ecuadorian illustrator and visual artist living in the Bay Area, Vanessa Shive‘s artwork draws inspiration from the rich tapestry of the Latino community.
She captures an essence through a “costumbrista” and whimsical lens of magical realism. Her work is characterized by vibrant color, experimentation and texture and by representing community through art, she aims to create a sense of connection, pride and celebration.

The Ramp Gallery is an artist-driven exhibition space at SOMArts that is currently accepting applications for four-week long solo and group shows.
