Kelly Lovemonster Zulfikar Ali Bhutto/ Faluda Islam Xandra Ibarra Marcela Pardo Ariza

November 20, 2018 thru

 December 15, 2018

THE BATHROOM LINE invites local QTPOC artists Kelly Lovemonster, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto/ Faluda Islam, Xandra Ibarra, and Marcela Pardo Ariza in a conversation around intimacy, ritual, and public/private space. The exhibition, curated by Juliana Delgado Lopera is a series of visual and text pieces installed at SOMArts from November 20, 2018 to December 15, 2018.

As queer people, we know that the bathroom is more than a place for bathing and hygiene. It’s where drag queens put on their eyelashes, lesbians hook up, and homeless queers wash their clothes, hidden from police and violence.

THE BATHROOM LINE asks: How can we destabilize the dominant language in San Francisco’s public spaces and create more nuanced understandings of queer and trans people of color, without spectacle, voyeurism, or exploitation? How can we push back against the growing homogenization of San Francisco, temporarily changing the city’s physical landscape and bringing queer intimacy into view?

Listen to the artist talk about their work in their own words:

About Radar Productions

Founded in 2003, RADAR Productions is one of the nation’s highest-profile literatary arts organizations focused on queer and trans people of color (QTPOC). Our presenting, commissioning and touring programs re-imagine what the literary arts can be, stimulate the production of work by QTPOC artists and explore the community-building role played by literature and the arts. Our programs build community and create a platform for innovative, emerging and mid-career queer and trans artists of color whose works challenge mainstream concepts of culture, race, gender, sexuality, and class and authentically reflect the experiences of QTPOC.
