Now in its 21st year, SOMArts’ annual Día de Los Muertos exhibition is one of the most internationally diverse Day of the Dead celebrations in the United States.

Founded by beloved San Francisco artist and curator René Yañez, Día de Los Muertos at SOMArts merges traditional altars with contemporary installations, continuing to be a multigenerational gathering of remembrance while asserting the role of art as a platform for collective action.

Living Legacies: Día de Los Muertos 2020 is a call to action for our responsibility to future generations. It is a call to invoke the strengths and lessons of our ancestors to survive the historic moment in which we’re currently living. This exhibition recognizes that the status quo has continued to fail communities of color while holding space for collective grief, mourning, and resilience in the face of systemic oppression.

Featuring a specially curated roster of artists for an exhibit of monumental space and imagination, curators Rio Yañez and Carolina Quintanilla encapsulate the urgency of our moment and light our path forward.

Living Legacies: Día de Los Muertos 2020 is open to the public Saturday, October 10–Friday, November 6, 2020 with timed ticketing entry.

Tickets are available with the suggested donation of $10, with no one turned away for lack of funds. During this time when so many artists and organizations are struggling financially, we deeply appreciate your support!
