About the exhibition

Wherever You Are, You’re Always Enough

In these prints and paintings, Sanaa Scherezade Khan renders self-possessed creatures occupying dreamlike moments of agency. The artist hopes viewers can recognize themselves and know they are strong, wise, capable, and deserving. The fantastic terrains around these characters are full of the possibilities of discovery, adventure, and acceptance of the next unknown chapter. These beings have come to terms with their own place in this world, its complexity, its enormity — and they trust themselves to stay open and present enough to navigate it.

These pieces symbolize navigating the landscape of our own internal worlds as well — trusting ourselves to ride overwhelming emotions, thoughts, and experiences like giant beautiful animals that can carry us somewhere incredible. We don’t need to dominate or be dominated by these big feelings – we can travel with them!

Each framed print was originally drawn in pencil or pen, then printed on a risograph, a machine that prints each color individually through a stencil like a silkscreen.

Sanaa’s exhibition is on view from October 1st, 2021November 15th, 2021

About the artist

Sanaa Scherezade Khan grew up in the South Bay Area. Her favorite mediums are painting, drawing and printmaking. She helps others realize their own art at Max’s Garage Press, a community print shop in Berkeley that offers affordable access to a wide range of equipment for traditional fine art printmaking, risograph printing, and zine-making. She also is 1/3rd of Tiny Splendor Press, an independent press that collaborates with artists around the world to share a love for putting ink on paper. Her priority these days is maintaining space for folks to make art in a world that often ignores art or turns it into a luxury.
