Lillian Shanahan is inspired by the current meme craze. She adds a few simple words to an image or manipulates an image to turn it into her own version of this phenomenon. It’s lowbrow art, within a high-art meme. She sometimes uses unconventional materials like Perler beads; with the toys of her childhood she expresses the attitudes of her adulthood, revealing her juvenile tendencies. She is re-learning how to be playful and subsequently reminding us to as well.

Meet the Artist
Lillian Shanahan will be at SOMArts on December 1st , 6–9pm. Visit The Ramp Gallery for a chance to meet the artist, talk about their work and inspiration, have a drink and enjoy their awesome artwork! Lillian Shanahan is a San Francisco native with a B.A. in painting from University of California Santa Barbara; College of Creative Studies. She currently works and lives in the Bay Area.
