SUMMARY:SOMArts presents La Pocha Nostra Performance
DESCRIPTION:SOMArts is proud to partner with La Pocha Nostra performance company to produce a 10-day workshop culminating in an evening of performance on Saturday\, August 4\, 8–10pm. \nThe 10-day interdisciplinary workshop hosted at SOMArts and facilitated by members of the legendary La Pocha Nostra performance group will explore the concept of the “city in ruins” and artist-driven responses to the predatory politics of urban land-use. Workshop participants were chosen through an open call process and will include local and international artists. \nThe culminating performance will involve the creation of interactive performance installations with an emphasis on the human body in relation to architecture. Tickets are available online in advance for $12 or at the door for $15. Join us to discover what happens when a group of performers spend 10 days creating at SOMArts!

SUMMARY:SOMArts presents ¡Demasiado!: A Benefit for SOMArts
DESCRIPTION:¡Demasiado! Too much glamour. Too much fun. Too much art. Too much hope for the future. \nOn Saturday\, April 14\, SOMArts will present ¡Demasiado! — an immersive art party\, community meal and dance party to support the organization at the intersection of art and social justice since 1979. Featuring the artists and culture-bearers who are standing up for creative resistance in the Bay Area and honoring pioneering Chicano artist and curator René Yañez\, the event will bring together SOMArts’ community of artists and arts lovers to look toward the future we want to create. \nFor over 35 years\, SOMArts has fostered access to the arts in the Bay Area\, uplifting the voices of artists who are too often marginalized in the mainstream art world. Now more than ever\, it is crucial that artists are given the resources and support they need to create socially-conscious work. Ticket sales from ¡Demasiado! will generate crucial income for SOMArts’ creative programs. As Executive Director Maria Jenson asserts\, “SOMArts is a vital engine in the solidarity economy fighting to keep artists living and working in the Bay Area. Individual contributions at events like ¡Demasiado! allow SOMArts to continue supporting artists with fees and commissions\, professional development and mentorship to further their careers.” \n¡Demasiado! will showcase René’s tremendous impact on the Bay Area arts ecosystem in an event conceived entirely by artists to benefit SOMArts’ programs. Guests will enjoy an evening of experimental performance\, artist-designed installations\, and dancing to a lineup of the Bay Area’s finest DJs. \nTickets:\n– SOLD OUT : Community meal + dance party: $110\, includes catered dinner and celebration of René Yañez from 7:00–9:00 pm. Dinner party attendees will also have the opportunity to bid on select works by René Yañez in a silent auction. Plus\, entrance to the immersive dance party with cutting-edge performances and artist-designed installations from 9:00 pm–midnight.\n– Dance party: $25\, guarantees general admission entry to the dance party from 9:00 pm–12:00 am\, with cutting-edge performances\, artist-designed installations and some of the Bay Area’s hottest DJ’s. \nThis event is 21+ only. \n¡Demasiado!
