SUMMARY:The Luminesce Ball: An Evening of Fashion\, Runway\, and Vogue
DESCRIPTION:SOMArts\, in collaboration with Oakland To All presents The Luminesce Ball: An Evening of Fashion\, Runway\, and Vogue showcasing the talent of the Bay Area’s House and Ballroom community\, including a culminating pre-show performance from our all-levels workshop series. \nThe Luminesce Ball is all ages; tickets can be purchased online or at the door. \nGet Your TicketsCommentator\, Icon Dashuan BasquiatBeats by DJ SpiderPre-Show Hosted by Aurris Garçon \nAbout Our Cultural PartnersOAKLAND TO ALLOakland to All is a collaborative initiative dedicated to creating an inclusive environment for the ballroom community in the Bay Area and nearby regions. This vibrant scene predominantly comprises Black and Latino LGBTQ individuals\, who often remain underserved. Our collective aims to provide a welcoming atmosphere for LGBTQ+ black and brown individuals and their allies\, encouraging self-expression in a fun\, safe\, and creative setting. We also focus on connecting people with vital resources and care through partnerships with local LGBTQ community organizations. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur vision is to establish a permanent safe haven for the ballroom community. We aspire to offer a wide range of programs\, resources\, advocacy\, and outreach by organizing support groups\, classes\, and events. Our goal is to create a space where individuals can explore and express themselves freely\, without fear of oppression. We envision an atmosphere rooted in love\, where meaningful dialogue\, constructive feedback\, and supportive relationships contribute to growth and positive change. Ultimately\, we aim to foster a safe\, inviting space where the ballroom scene\, especially its lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, transgender\, and queer members\, can thrive\, free from homophobia\, sexism\, transmisogyny\, and racism. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEMERGENCE COLLECTIVEEMERGENCE is an independent community fashion show centered around a unique vision of collective creative liberation. Each year\, we feature a curated blend of local Bay Area designers\, performers\, models\, stylists\, and staff in a transdisciplinary orchestration of raw\, innovative talent. Our shows create spaces for queer\, trans\, and BIPOC artists to bring new worlds into being through fashion and performance. Driven by both a need and love for each other\, we foster community\, networks of care\, and economic resiliency by/for marginalized artists through our annual fashion show as well as gallery shows\, art markets\, co-working spaces\, community events\, mutual aid\, and more. This universe of radical creation is a prayer for our communities to emerge stronger and more bravely\, together. \nThank you to the Svane Family Foundation for supporting this grand event\, and to our contributing partners: San Francisco Aids Foundation\, SOMA West CBD\, LYRIC Center for LGBTQQ+ Youth\, and Thrive/What’s T.E.A. \nThank you to our cultural partners: Oakland To All\, Emergence Collective\, and the California College of the Arts Fashion Department. \nPhoto by Randy Lucina\nVoguer in the photo: Icon Meeka Alpha-Omega at 2024 Lover’s Revenge Ball

SUMMARY:Artists Live Here: Community Convening
DESCRIPTION:San Francisco’s arts ecosystem is at a breaking point. With the recent announcement that the California College of the Arts will shutter in 2027 and the indefinite closure of the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts\,  cultural spaces are disappearing and the infrastructure that sustains creative life is eroding faster than policy and philanthropy can respond. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLike many organizations\, we are feeling the impact directly. At SOMArts\, we are facing the loss of approximately $90\,000 due to an SFAC funding reduction\, with the potential for more cuts heading our way. These cuts pose real consequences for our staff\, operations\, and ability to hold space for artists. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are convening an urgent public gathering to name this reality out loud and bring artists\, organizers\, funders\, board members\, and decision-makers into the same room—while there is still something left to save. We are opening our doors as a civic space to channel urgency into visibility\, collective pressure\, and tangible next steps. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf we don’t have this conversation now\, we may not get another chance. We are inviting you to join us\, share this invitation widely\, and help bring others into the room who care about the future of arts and culture in this city. If you’re able\, supporting this work—by showing up\, spreading the word\, or contributing what you can—helps keep the doors open for moments like this.
